Typothetae

Thirty-seven misspellings of the Hampshire Typothet�'s name, along with definitions of "typothetae"-the first "signifying type placers." Designed by Barry Moser in Centaur and Arrighi types. Printed by Harold McGrath in black, red, blue and about twelve other colors for the bullets-each requiring a separate press run. A nice thing. Oh. Wait. You don't know what the Hampshire Typothet� was. In 1978, Moser, McGrath, Jeffrey P. Dwyer (bookseller), John Lancaster & Ruth Mortimer (curator-librarians), and John Locke (dunno) established the Hampshire Typothetae in Northampton, Massachusetts, later in West Hatfield, Massachusetts, as a commercial letterpress shop. The business was established using printing equipment that Leonard Baskin had used at his Gehenna Press. The Typothetae operated until 1986. Excellent 454.
