Lenke pens an unpretentious World War II allegory, authored with a wonderful human and humorous perspective. A naive lad from the pastoral Flint Hills of Kansas, colorfully narrates change from civilian life to becoming a well-trained combat soldier, doing what warriors have been conditioned to endure and do.

Kenneth (Ken) Lenke was born and raised in the heart of the tall grass prairie country of the Flint Hills of Chase County, Kansas. He earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and master's degree from Emporia State University. Lenke, a physics instructor, retired from the Scottsdale (Arizona) Public School System. After relinquishing his teaching assignment, he developed a cultural interest in the indigenous dwellers of the American Southwest, including the music of these early dwellers. His flute music has been heard by many including schoolchildren at the Desert Center Learning Facility located in Scottsdale. He served as a volunteer at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center. The author currently resides in Phoenix.
