Il volume (DDOT/9) � dedicato al rapporto tra i primi e gli ultimi. La parabola evangelica dei lavoratori della vigna o degli operai dell’ultima ora (Mt 20,1-16) apre a una serie di interrogativi sulla priorit� logica, ontologica ed etica del primo sull’ultimo, sulla comprensione della giustizia degli uomini di fronte alla paradossalit� della giustizia di Dio e, infine, sul rapporto tra la condizione storica e quella escatologica. Come intendere dunque l’affermazione di Ges�: “gli ultimi saranno i primi”? Come intendere la “giustizia degli ultimi” alla quale fa eco questo brano? Secondo una logica umana, troppo umana, si potrebbe trattare della promessa di un progredire nella propria condizione che, tuttavia, in quel “saranno”, rimanda a un futuro che continua a tardare, o forse soltanto a una mera utopia, o a una vana consolazione. Ma se guardata dalla logica del Regno di Dio cui sottost� la parabola, essa invita invece a vedere quel futuro come un futuro escatologico, che quindi si converte in un presente storico. Quel “saranno”, cio�, � anche, soprattutto, un “sono”. Proprio perch�, secondo una logica divina, trinitaria, essere ultimo ed essere primo non si escludono a vicenda. Altrimenti questa trasformazione degli ultimi in primi non sarebbe che un progredire, un lasciarsi alle spalle la condizione che li vede ultimi o quantomeno penultimi, nel segno di una sostituzione. Non � forse di questa logica che si fa testimonianza il verdetto della parabola? Non invita essa a pensare che gli ultimi vengono qui riconosciuti “primi” proprio in quanto ultimi, e non in quanto capaci di lasciarsi alle spalle, dopo averla esclusa, la condizione di ultimativit�?
