The overland route to India - the trek that loomed large in a generation's consciousness.

John Webster, with his indomitable girlfriend, was one of those who made the trip in the early 1970s. He now brings it to life in an easy-going verse narrative that opens windows onto, and create understandings of a series of cultures, some now out of reach. The reader is immersed in the sights and sounds, the cultural discoveries, the difficulties and delights of the journey, and shares the trials and triumphs of youth.

First published as 'On the Asian Highway', republished as 'The Rime of the Asian Highway' when John realised it was in the same metre as Coleridge's legendary poem, the book also includes poems, songs lyrics and a short story influenced by the journey and its aftemath.

A distinctive sharing of a memorable experience, 'The Rime of the Asian Highway’ has been described by renowned critic John Carey as 'Magnificent, wonderfully vivid and exciting'. It includes poems, song lyrics, and a short story influenced by the journey and its aftermath.
