The Laughing Gods: Poems for the End of the World is a dark, surrealist collection of poetry that explores love, loss, chaos, and the human condition through an apocalyptic lens. Taking place in a world where the Gods watch and allow horrors to take place so long as it entertains them, the collection follows a society that may be extinct before they know it. Poems such as "My Private Perfect Hell", "The TV in my mind", and "The Devil's Whispers" explore existential crisis with passing moments of romance. Every poem feels as if the "end" of everything could come at any moment. The collection reminds us that even a world on the edge of collapse can dream and attempt finding meaning.
"A note to the reader:
Humans may now own the Earth
Because they have beat the fates and odds
But the only way they may keep this world
Is if they continue to entertain the Laughing Gods . . ."
If you are a lover of poetry, mythology or sci-fi then this is a must-read book for you. With unsettling and haunting illustrations that aid vivid imagery, this collection is a fantastic addition to any reader's book shelf.
