Despite living in between two cultures, despite the discrimination she faced as a woman at home and at work, and despite the challenges of being a working mother, Esther built the "perfect life"-marriage, children, a professional job, a beautiful house and two new cars in the garage. But something felt off.... Instead of living the dream, she soon found herself trapped in a nightmare.

The American dream once looked like a shiny and precious gold coin to her, but living it revealed the flip side-a harsh and fragile reality. Was the dream really a counterfeit all along?

Hui Jiang was born and raised in China, and she came to the United States as a graduate student in the early 1990s. Over the years, she worked as a professional in various industries and now owns a successful business. The author has lived in Texas for more than thirty years, where she raised two wonderful children.
