Pepe y Begoña is a delightful decodable book in the Hola Books Yellow Series, designed specifically for early Spanish readers. Through three charming and accessible short stories, young learners are introduced to relatable social experiences such as meeting someone new, dealing with jealousy, and learning to share. The main character, Pepe-a curious and expressive cat-encounters Begoña, a friendly dog who is new to the household. At first, Pepe misunderstands her, even mistaking her for a bear or a pig. As the story progresses, readers witness his emotional journey from suspicion to acceptance.

In the second story, Pepe struggles with having to share his toys and spaces with Begoña. His reactions mirror those of young children navigating friendships and change, providing a great opportunity for classroom or at-home conversations about emotions, fairness, and getting along. In the final section, the two characters come together to celebrate with a traditional piñata. Children will enjoy the festive setting while observing how the characters support one another, even when they feel nervous or unsure.

The book includes engaging illustrations and is written entirely with decodable text, allowing students to build confidence, fluency, and automaticity. Additionally, the back pages feature a non-fiction "¿Sabías qué?" section with fun facts about cats and dogs living together, and a hands-on guide to creating your own piñata-offering an authentic cultural connection.
