Synopsis
Paul wrote, "Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more" (1 Thess. 4:1). To "excel still more" is to achieve that which is set in front of you. In our case Heaven has been set in front of us, and it is up to us to walk in a worthy manner. When I excel, I grow; when I excel still more, I grow and grow and grow!
The Excel Still More Bible Workshop is directed toward a deep study of a particular book or topic of the Bible. Our platform is a simple three-step pattern.
1. Learn the text
This section of the study is designed to go through the text in a verse-by-verse fashion, identifying key words, phrases, and verses.
2. Apply the text
In this section, our aim is to make practical application of the text that will serve as a bridge between what we study in the first section and the impact it has in our life.
3. Build off the text
This third section will focus on "faith builders," the additional nuggets we glean from the text that help us grow in our own faith.
Our hope in this great study is simple: to help you learn the text, apply the text, and build a strong faith. Our intent for this book is to provide an easy-to-use resource with reliable resources so you can gain profitable knowledge from the text. As Christians, we want to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we pray this resource will be a tool to help us all do that.
About the Authors
Denny is married to the former Kathy Roberts. They have been married since January 1978. They have three children (Lance, Brett, and Laura), and six grandchildren (Chloe, Ashlyn, Sophie, Easton, Brelyn, and Kyson). He has served as the President of the Bear Valley Bible Institute since 2004 and has been a full-time instructor since 1985. He has preached in Mississippi, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Colorado. He has taught numerous classes for the World Video Bible School and has authored several books and commentaries. He graduated from the Bear Valley School of Preaching (now the Bear Valley Bible Institute), received an AA degree in Bible (York College), BA in Bible and Biblical Languages (Harding University), MA in Old and New Testaments (Harding Graduate School of Religion), and a Ph.D. in Religious Education (University of Nebraska).
Joe Wells holds an earned B.S. degree in Science along with a completion certificate from the Nashville School of Preaching and Biblical Studies and a Masters of Ministry degree from Freed-Hardeman University. Joe travels the country as a frequent speaker for youth and family events, men's days, as well as Gospel meetings. He is the co-founder of Kaio Publications, publishers of the Family Devotional series as well as the Finer Grounds Bible Study series for women. Joe is also the author of the book "Complete: Becoming the Man God Purposes You to Be" and "Game Plan: Developing a Spiritually Winning Strategy for Adults and Teens in Today's Culture." Along with this, he and Erin are the co-host of The Hey Joe Show, a podcast designed to challenge and strengthen families and teens across America. Joe has served God in a public way since 2000 in the capacity of youth minister and Gospel preacher, helping people make the connection with the Word of God and encouraging them to be transformed for Christ. He is blessed to the husband to the former Erin O'Hara, and they are the proud parents of four beautiful children: Colton, Michala, Camden, and Bennett.
Garrett married his wife, Cristen, in December 2005, and together, they have four wonderfulboys: Parker, who is married to his beautiful wife, Claire, and their daughter, Taytum, as well asCohen, Ryder, and Kamden. Garrett has been actively involved in directing and participating innumerous camps, retreats, conferences, and workshops. In addition, he is the Executive Directorof Excel Still More Inc. and contributes annually as a writer and instructor for the Excel StillMore Bible Workshop and Excel Publications articles. Currently, Garrett serves as the pulpitminister for the Hydro Church of Christ in Hydro, Oklahoma, where he and his family reside.
