It's Spring Appraisals at fairy school, and best friends Zaeda and Luli are anxious, but for different reasons. Zaeda knows the tests will bring her closer to one day completing school and beginning missions-using her magical service to help children in the human world. But Luli hates school, especially math-her brain just doesn't process numbers naturally and she finds it hard to focus.

Zaeda doesn't seem to understand why Luli finds school so hard when she knows Luli is smart and creative. As Zaeda goes about life with ease and dismisses Luli's feelings, Luli begins to ignore Zaeda at school and hides away at home.
