Some years ago, in the old mill town of Lowell, Massachusetts, lived a boy named Guy DeMonde who was at once a dreamer and sometimes a loner. When he wasn't off by himself dreaming in his tree house, Guy spent time with a tight knit group of neighborhood pals with whom he embarked on the usual round of small adventures that built camaraderie and fond memories. Then, one day, he and his friends encountered the greatest challenge of their young lives: a new kid in the neighborhood whose lifestyle contradicted many of the beliefs they had always taken for granted.
