As he is approaches becoming an octogenarian, “elder statesman” Larry Scanlan wishes to share the wisdom he has learned through the years on work, family and friends, and how to live life in this world to ensure we get to eternal life in the next. He has found one amazing tenet to be true: studying the Bible, God’s word, is the key.

So why don’t we all read the Bible every day?

The author has discovered that each day, on average, we speak over ten thousand words, while we read thousands of words and participate in social media, often for hours, using multiple platforms as the days turn into weeks, months, and years. Yet the Bible, God’s Holy words, have become marginalized in our society; (statistic) only 46% of all adults of reading age actually have read the Scriptures, and that number is fading fast. Like all generations, we will pass away—our time is limited. Still, God’s word remains, just as Jesus said it would, and will lead us to redemption and eternal life if we spend even a small amount of precious time in it.

Sometimes humorous, often heart-wrenching and humble, these weekly devotionals are written with poignant reflections on faith, family, and friends. After all, at the end of life, what else really matters? Each will direct you to God’s word, which will then point you to Jesus and how to accept his offer of life in heaven when you die. Isn’t that worth a bit of your time?
