Load your shotgun, sharpen your machete, and get ready for the first blood-splattered installment in the Mortuous 28 series by International Bestselling and Global Book Award-winning author Kevin W. K. Moore. This unrelenting, nightmarish odyssey is seething with gore, violence, vile human behaviour, and hordes of festering, undead monsters.

Ashes of Civilization is sure to satisfy your lust for gut-wrenching carnage and bloodcurdling despair.

Thaddeus Stormbreaker, a hardened Finnish-Canadian immigrant, is forced to decide his fate when a viral infection dubbed Mortuous 28 spreads, unchecked, across the globe, turning man and beast into insatiable undead predators.

When the infection crashes into North America, Canada’s leaders abandon their people to save themselves, leaving millions to survive the violence and self-protectionism that is spreading faster than the undead.

With his electric campervan, Thaddeus claws his way 1600 kilometres north toward his family’s secluded cabin in the woods. As people devolve faster than the infection can spread, he quickly learns that the living are far more dangerous than the undead. When isolation begins to chip and fracture his sanity, Thaddeus takes a dangerous gamble and picks up a lone hitchhiker. Together, they push through the endless bush, soaked in fear.

In the rotting hellscape south, what’s left of the skeletal U.S. government ignores whispers of a cure, choosing blood over hope instead. As ever-swelling hordes march across the eastern states, the U.S. government turns its guns inward, tightening control instead of offering protection.

As the U.S. government prepares for a sacrificial stand that demands catastrophic collateral damage, Marie-Soleil Surprenant, a fearless rogue journalist, risks everything to break through government censorship and expose the truth. When starvation finally outweighs terror, she forces her fear aside and ventures out from the false safety of her apartment—only to find self-preservation has stripped humans of their humanity.

The sixth great extinction is upon us. Time is running out. Can a cure be found? Or has humankind’s time on earth come to an end?

Born in the 80s in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, I quickly ventured from the comforts of my hometown to travel the world. With a camera, a pen, and paper, I spent over fifteen years chasing stunning landscapes and drawing inspiration from the world's most vibrant cultures. As a seasoned backpacker and nature enthusiast, my writing ignited from the journals I filled while exploring hidden trails and bustling cities. With a passion for storytelling, I tried my hand at the written word and found profound success with my debut self-published novel, Dude, Where's My Walking Stick, an adventure memoir about my 1,300km hiking journey across New Zealand. The book was an instant success, winning a Global Book Award for Best Amateur Writer and breaking the top 1000 books on all of Amazon. I was featured in CBC News and Windsor Life Magazine, and I was interviewed on CKLW Radio to discuss the success of the novel. This paved the way for more written works, including the Mortuous 28 series. An unrelenting, nightmarish odyssey across an apocalyptic North American hellscape. Seething with gore, violence, vile human behaviour, and hordes of festering, undead monsters, the Mortuous 28 series is a fictional masterpiece inspired by my love for the horror genre and all things zombified. The years are catching up, but I am still an avid outdoorsman who loves to get lost in some of the world's most unforgiving landscapes. I recently completed a ten-day solo hike through Kluane National Park in Northern Canada. I am also an amateur nature photographer nominated for the Yukon Visual Arts award in 2024. My prints adorn walls all across the globe. However, my true passion is storytelling, whether it's over a pint in a bar or through the written word. At 40, I'm not slowing down. I currently live in Manzanillo, Mexico, with my girlfriend and our cat. After living in the far north of Canada for a year, there's some much-needed warmth down here, and soon enough, I'll be able to tell stories in another language.
