Cora McLachlan is a close personal friend of the Queen of Hell.

That's not to say that she isn't a normal person, of course. In fact, she owns a bakery in the small town of Anvil, Virginia. She is also responsible for watching over Queen Lilith's animals, and she's admittedly grown attached to them while they've been in her care.

Yet despite all outward appearances, Cora has been depressed due to the recent death of her brother. Lilith has noticed and sends the Demon Lord, Ater, to keep an eye on her. At first, Cora is nervous about having a demon around. But this strikingly handsome blue demon-with his dragonfly wings and a melodic voice-proves to be kind and caring, and she's growing increasingly susceptible to his charm.

Ater is happy to watch over Her Majesty's friend. As the Lord of Messengers, he'd grown tired of organizing the tiny demons and admittedly needed some rest. At first, becoming friends with Cora was easy. But as the days progress, they both find they want more from each other, and it isn't long before what started as friendship has turned into something passionate between them.

But with passion comes a price. Someone has been trying to hurt the Queen's animals, and when Ater discovers them, his effort to protect them all has devastating consequences.

Can Cora and Ater's love survive? Or will the acts of man ruin them forever? Read the story of Cora and Ater, and discover how love keeps you from Falling in the Dark.
