Thanksgiving week, 2022. Behind the doors of a shuttered Brooklyn shop, a group of unlikely companions gather for a trial no one else knows exists. Their host: Petamunra—the world’s first fault-tolerant quantum computer—enables reverse time travel, a journey where the past arrives to become the present.

Their mission is audacious: Can Technology Prevent World War III? Their testing ground is the Crimean War of 1853—the first proto-world-war—and antebellum New York City. At its root lie conflicts that shape modern times, from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to unrest in the Balkans and the Middle East.

The novanauts are thrust into a breathtaking race between belligerency and diplomacy, a contest not seen since the days of Troy—a battleground of powerful monarchies and freedom’s champions in Bosporus, between the ages of imperial legitimacy and quantum intelligence.

Blending fact and imagination, Sick Man is a bold re-creation of the nineteenth century—both a meditation on wisdom and intelligence and a story brimming with surprises.

Rich with human desires interwoven with quantum technology, Sick Man is the opening act of a trilogy, Ten Days Inside History, that asks the most urgent question of our time: Can humanity progress without destroying itself?

More than historical fiction—among its best. It’s science-plausible.
