Synopsis
This manual demonstrates how crafters, parents and children can unlock the creative potential of their computer and colour printer. Beginning with The Crafter's Desktop, an overview of the hardware, software and craft supplies required, the book then presents a selection of craft activities. These include simple paper items such as bookmarks and postcards, holiday ideas such as Halloween masks and gift boxes, toys and games such as puzzles and puppets, fabric items such as T-shirts and quilts, and home decor such as frames and wall-paper borders. Sidebars list the materials and software needed, the level of difficulty and estimated time to complete the project.
Reviews
The more than 30 patterns detailed here are easy, filled with explicit directions, photographs, and illustrations, and they are labeled with completion time, level of difficulty, materials, and software needed. The section on buying a printer definitely has application far beyond its use as a crafting tool. Every piece of data necessary to succeed, from basic tools and commands to vocabulary and layout creation, is packed into the first chapter. Once mastered, that information provides a great foundation for creating such items as a jigsaw puzzle, luminaria, a memory quilt, and even a wallpaper border. Tips and creativity sidebars throughout ensure that any age crafter will be able to expand beyond merely copying the patterns. Metric conversion table appended. Barbara Jacobs
