According to the British Library a book with this title was first published in 1881. This copy is dated 1896 and does not appear in the catalogues of the BL, JISC Hub or the Library of Congress. It includes the Introduction to the American Edition and three sections: Legends of the old Plantation; His Songs; and His Sayings. 4¾ x 7¼'' pp. xxxi + 248 + [8] publisher's advertisements. With 50 black and white illustrations by A. T. Elwes. Very good in green cloth with black stamped titling and illustrations to front cover and spine. Firm and tight. Contents clean with no stains, marks, labels or stamps. Some foxing to front edge. No dustwrapper.
