Publisher and date not identified, but Boots the Booksellers is featured on the back cover. Pages not numbered. Large format Hardback with illustrations by Harry Rountree. In Poor condition, as its a much read children's book of some age (the cardboard covers are yellow with titling in red and black, the front featuring Brer Rabbit riding Brer Fox, the back a small drawing of Brer Rabbit in red with an advert for Boots The Booksellers above it ; the covers are well rubbed and dirt-marked, and the corners and edges worn ; there is a dedication in pencil 'from Patsy to Josephine' on the front end paper, above the description of the book ; there are tears on two of the 12 illustrations ; unusually, the Contents page is on the back end paper ; some pages at the end are becoming detached ; overall, though, it appears to be complete) Although this is in Poor condition, the worth and attraction here is in the stunning full-page, vibrant colour illustrations by the great New Zealand born artist Harry Rountree (1878=1950), a specialist in bird and animal drawings who developed his observation skills by his regular visits to the London Zoo. He became famous both for his illustrations for children's books and his illustrations for Punch and other magazines, and his posters, adverts and book illustrations for Conan Doyle and P.G. Wodehouse novels.
