One of a series of delightful children's stories first published in the Evening News of Newark, NJ, that introduced the world to Uncle Wiggily Longears & friends, about whom Garis would eventually pen 79 tales. TThis marked their first appearance in book form from 1912; this is a 1940 reprint, in 184 pages with full-color frontispiece & DJ design by Elmer Rache. Small octavo (5.75" x 8.00") has bright orange cloth-covered boards stamped with a rabbit & lettering in black to front & spine. From a well-preserved, single-owner collection, condition is stunning: the book is Fine in a Near Fine DJ! Exceptionally clean & bright, pages creamy white & unmarked, binding strong & straight, both hinges intact.The shallowly clipped DJ is stunning (we at first thought it was a reprint it is so nice!). Flawless save for light soil a tiny chip to top edge of back cover. Else, bright & colorful & clean & protected in clear mylar cover to stay that way!
