About this title

Synopsis

This book recounts the military career of General James H. Wilson, one of the Union Army's most successful cavalry commanders during the American Civil War. The author provides a detailed account of Wilson's leadership of the Union cavalry during the Atlanta Campaign and the subsequent March to the Sea. The book also covers Wilson's role in the defense of Nashville, the Battle of Franklin, and the final defeat of Confederate General John Bell Hood. Drawing heavily from the author's personal wartime correspondence, the narrative offers a unique and insightful account of the challenges and triumphs of cavalry warfare in the Western Theater of the Civil War. Through Wilson's experiences, the author explores the evolving nature of cavalry tactics and strategy, and the vital role that mounted forces played in the ultimate Union victory.
