Somewhere Under the Rainbow

This is a story of unconditional love under extraordinary circumstances. In the autumn of 2018 I took a transgender boy I had met only once out to lunch, anticipating becoming an adult friend and mentor to him as he worked his way through college and his transition. I ended up becoming his mother. He and I tell this tale together. We try to approach serious topics - mental health issues, gender related healthcare, college concerns, dating, siblings, and so forth - with humor and candor. We explore the integration of an unexpected addition into a family from both points of view and we look at how being transgender colors everything Jayce does."Kelly and Jayce Price have written a fantastic, authentic book on a timely subject: the day-to-day challenges and joys of being – and raising! – a transgender son. Told with wit, painful honesty, and alternating perspectives, Somewhere Under the Rainbow will offer guidance to parents raising trans children while striking a responsive chord with those who are in the process of transitioning.”-Carrie Goldman, author of Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher, and Kid Needs to Know About Ending the Cycle of Fear“The story you are about to read is life changing. Let it sink into your heart. Let it change you. This story is about courage and agape love, blended with humor. Read it twice.”-Laci Marie Basel, Laci Speak & Sing“Somewhere Under the Rainbow is a book the world needs to better understand what it means to be transgender and the importance of chosen family. Kelly and Jayce bring their individual perspectives into one collective story. Together they show what the power of love and education can do. I laughed, I cried, and I highly recommend this book.”-Sara Cunningham, Author of How We Sleep at Night, A Mother’s Memoir, and Founder of Free Mom Hugs. www.freemomhugs.org“Two strangers walked into a restaurant and left with not just a belly full of noodles, but with a growing love, as family. These two intertwined perspectives on the beautiful story of transformation, acceptance, and love will fill your heart.” – Representative Brianna Titone, Colorado HD 27"A triumphant story of love, family, and second chances, this heartwarming memoir by a mother and son is a blueprint for how we can all better support trans youth."-Amanda Jette Knox, Author of Love Lives Here
