Under the Tropic Sun: A Pilot's Tale of Intrigue and Veiled Peril

Captain Bruce Fisher's alter ego Brian Farrell takes on new challenges while navigating the waters of the Caribbean and the rivers of South America. What begins as a straightforward survey to determine whether seagoing ships might safely navigate the Essequibo River deep into the Guyana jungle soon takes on unexpected challenges of intrigue. He engages with river pirates, Venezuelan banditos, a runaway femme yachtie and a native lost tribe all leading to the revelation of an ominous Chinese presence.
On returning to Trinidad, the CIA asks Fisher’s help and offers him the helm of Tropic Sun, a luxurious 512-foot ship capable of carrying 500 VIP and cabin class passengers. Under the guise of creating Windward Islands Cruise Lines, Fisher helps the CIA reveal and document the machinations of Xi Jinping’s “China Belt and Road Initiative” as the Chinese aggressively move in on unsuspecting island nations and their corrupt politicians. Murder, romance, chicanery, this novel has it all.
The tale, based on the author’s actual seagoing experience, culminates in a sobering expose of the real and present threat of Chinese domination in the underbelly of the United States.
Massachusetts Maritime Academy graduate, marine pilot and master ship handler, Captain Bruce B. Fisher, with an accomplished and lengthy seagoing career, is now homeported in Newport, RI.
