The Underground Guide to Microsoft Office, OLE, and VBA offers a sophisticated discussion of Office programming and the technologies that make it possible. Unfortunately, the book covers Office 4.x, which preceded Office 95, rendering much of the material obsolete. Nonetheless, Hudspeth and Lee describe OLE Automation, OfficeLinks, and Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) in great detail and list dozens of low-level OLE and DDE bugs. While it won't provide you with the most up-to-date information, having this technophilosophical background is a prerequisite to becoming a great programmer.
