Understanding, Assessing, and Intervening on Reading Problems

For every child to succeed, every child must be able to read.
Reading is more than an academic subject. It is the foundational skill upon which all other learning builds and is essential to success in school and life. Ensuring that all children become competent readers is a core objective for schools, mandated in federal and state law.
Understanding, Assessing, and Intervening on Reading Problems is designed for the practitioner and provides an understanding of how reading develops, how to assess reading development and link that information to intervention, and how to teach reading using evidence-based approaches.

Laurice M. Joseph is an Associate Professor of School Psychology at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She obtained her doctorate in School Psychology with a specialization in Reading at Ohio State university in 1997. During her doctoral studies, she servied as a supervisor in the Reading Clinic at OSU under the directorship of Drs. Sandra McCormick and Jerry Zutell. Before obtaining her doctorate, she practiced as a school psychologist for five years in Hardin County Schools, Kenton, Ohio. She earned her master's degree in school psychology and special education at Ohio State University in 1988 and her bachelor's degree in elementary and special education at the University of Dayton in 1985.
