Understanding 'Dog Mind': Bonnie Bergin's Guide to Bringing Out the Best in Your Dog Bergin, Bonnie and McNally, Robert Aquinas

First, forget everything you've been taught about dog behavior and dog training.

Dogs are as individual as people -- no two are exactly alike -- and there is no single training method that is effective for all dogs. What you need in order to bring out the best in your dog is an understanding of your dog's nature and individuality, as well as an informed awareness of the way in which your own actions and responses affect your dog.

Drawing on two decades of experience working with dogs of all breeds, Bonnie Bergin shares what she has learned and discovered about:
-- how dogs learn
-- the compelling similarities -- and the important differences -- between dogs and humans
-- the real evolutionary history of the modern dog
-- popular fallacies that cloud our understanding of canines
-- the appropriate use of praise
-- how and why dogs seek leadership
-- the critical distinction between correction and punishment
-- how to connect with your dog emotionally

"Dog mind", Bergin's approach to perceiving the world as canines do, is key to her mode of training. She invites us to look into the eyes of our pets and appreciate fully the marvelous life and intelligence they possess. Her book will work wonders for puppies and teach old dogs new tricks.
