We cannot truly understand - let alone counter - terrorism in the 21st century unless we also understand the processes of communication that underpin it. This book challenges what we know about terrorism, showing that current approaches are inadequate and outdated, and develops a new communication model to understand terrorism in the media age.
Cristina Archetti is Professor inPolitical Communication and Journalism at the University of Oslo, Norway. Shewon the 2008 Denis McQuail Award for Innovating Communication Theory. Herresearch interests cover the intersection between security, politics, andstrategic communication. Beyond having written extensively on the role of newmedia in terrorism and counterterrorism, her publications also cover publicdiplomacy 2.0, the media coverage of war and conflict, the impact of new mediaon diplomatic practice, the effect of digital technologies on internationaljournalism. She serves on the editorial board of the journal CriticalStudies on Terrorism and has over a decade experience in teaching strategiccommunication.
