Understanding Type for Desktop Publishing

Understanding Type for Desktop Publishing is a guide to typographic concepts and principles for DTP users who may be unfamiliar with the range of options previously only available to the professional designer and printer. It will help DTP users make more informed decisions about design and produce more readable, effective documents.
Starting with examples of familiar typographic idiom--newspapers, road signs, etc.--the first part discusses the principles of type, different typefaces and typographic measurement; and gives advice on ways of setting type and choosing a typeface. The second part shows individual typefaces in action to demonstrate appropriate and inappropriate uses, and to stimulate awareness of the range of possibilities and potential of various typefaces.
