58x69 cm. Very colorful and decorative railroad map of the United States, with four inset maps, a view of the Capitol, and two small vignettes. Full color by state. Rail lines are printed in red. Sides, which were later filled with military figures, are blank. Minor chipping in margins at right and bottom. The inset maps are: Military Map of Maryland & Virginia; Map of Northern Military Movements between New York & St. Louis; untitled map of the entrance to Pensacola Bay; untitled general map of the eastern United States. This is a proof of most portions of a wonderful production by Charles Magnus, whose company produced thousands of different pieces in the second half of the 19th century. Prolific in the publishing of patriotic envelopes and stationery, illustrated letter sheets, illustrated song sheets, decorative prints, maps, and many other items. Among their products were many views of cities, including a large series of views in and around New York City.
