J. L. Pete Morgan is a native of southwestern Missouri. He served with the US Navy reserve as a ball turret gunner on TBM torpedo bombers in the 1950s. During the Korean conflict, after transferring to the United States Army, he graduated from the Fort Benning officer candidate school and was commissioned a lieutenant of infantry and became an instructor in the US Army's Ranger school at Fort Benning, Georgia. After active duty and graduating from Missouri State University, he had assignments in the US Army reserve as an infantry company commander and later transferred to the United States Air Force as an administrative and security services officer. He retired in 1971 with the rank of major. He finished the 20 year career as a sales executive in the investment industry. Peter and his wife, Sara, retired in Paradise Valley Arizona. Since his retirement is been active in the in insignia trade. He is pursuing his hobbies of military history and working to build a large and comprehensive collection of military insignia which he began in 1943 His earlier books on the subject are The Elite of the Fleet and earlier editions of the US military Patch Guide.
