The Unity of the Book of Genesis (Classic Reprint)

Discover a clear, evidence-based case for a single, continuous Genesis. This edition presents the book’s argument that Genesis was written by one author, not a compilation from multiple sources, and it guides readers through the surrounding critical debates with fairness and detail.

The author walks readers through the history of Pentateuch criticism, explains the document hypothesis, and shows how the Genesis text is analyzed chapter by chapter. The goal is to help theology students, ministers, and curious lay readers understand the book of Genesis in its connection to the wider Pentateuch, with careful attention to language, structure, and scholarly argument.

• Framing the central question: is Genesis a unified work or a blend of documents?

• Evidence and arguments for and against the document hypothesis, presented fairly.

• Guidance on how critical methods relate to reading Genesis as part of sacred Scripture.

• Practical context for students and readers seeking a deeper grasp of the book’s place in biblical history.

Ideal for readers of biblical criticism, theology students, and anyone seeking a careful, scholarly view of Genesis in its literary and historical context.
