Violin Junior Lesson Book 1 by violin educator Ros Stephen is a creative violin method for children aged 5 years and upwards. Designed for violin lessons and home practice, it combines musical discovery with repertoire drawn from classical, folk, world and popular music, imaginative exercises and supporting online media.

The book includes pieces and exercises covering technical work, aural development, rhythm and improvisation, along with many duets designed for two children to play together. Fiocco the Frog accompanies children through the method and adds a playful narrative element to the learning experience. Piano and violin accompaniments are also available for the Lesson Books.

Online resources extend the printed material beyond the page. Full-version audio tracks and play-along MP3s are available for the Lesson Books, while tutorial videos offer technical and musical guidance for many of the pieces and exercises. Additional online materials further support practice and exploration, giving children opportunities to listen, play along, develop rhythmic awareness and explore musical ideas through both structured exercises and creative activities.

The broad mix of repertoire and activities encourages musical expression while keeping violin study varied from one session to the next. Duet playing introduces a collaborative element, while aural, rhythm and improvisation work broadens the experience beyond simply learning pieces. As the first Lesson Book in the Violin Junior series, it can also be complemented by related Theory Books and Concert Books within the method.

Violin Junior Lesson Book 1 offers a thoughtful combination of violin material, creative exercises and supporting online media for children learning at home or in lessons. Its varied repertoire, duets and activities make it a thoughtful gift for violinists aged 5 and older.
