Authored by Ray Hyman, a seasoned angler with a passion for the sport, this guide illuminates the path from novice to proficient fly fisher with clarity and depth.
Hyman brings this tradition to life, demystifying the sport with straightforward instructions paired with vivid illustrations, including his own unique watercolor paintings. This book covers every essential aspect: selecting the right equipment, mastering knots, understanding the diet of trout, and choosing the perfect imitation flies. It also delves into casting techniques, strategies for locating fish, and the art of presenting your fly to capture the elusive “big one.”
This book is more than a guide; it’s a gateway to experiencing the joy and fulfillment of fly fishing. Whether you’re casting your line for the first time or looking to refine your skills, this book promises a rewarding journey into the heart of fly fishing. Step into the stream with confidence and be part of the continuing story of fly fishing.
Ray Hyman (BA, MA, Ed.M) fell in love with fishing when he was five, and his uncle gave him his first bamboo pole and reel. Ray began fly fishing and fly tying many years ago and took his own notes and kept journals to improve his fly fishing knowledge and skills. After cleaning up his home office, he found his fly fishing notes in the journal he had made over the years. He thought that sharing that information with other people new to the sport could help them enjoy and experience fly fishing as much as he had over the years.
Using his knowledge and experience as a teacher, college professor, and fly fisher, Ray has organized his fishing notes over the years into this book for beginners. With his love for watercolor painting, Ray also recreated his own sketches to enhance the text for visual learners. Ray, and his wife Laura, had been married 39 years and are the proud parents of four grown children. Ray and Laura love to hike America’s National and State Parks and enjoy moments of solitude in the wilderness together.
