Sylvia Hemmerly was a member of the production department for a large commercial printer in the mid-west for many years before becoming the production manager for an international legal publisher. This experience on both sides of the picture gives her good insights into all aspects of publishing and printing. In 1988 she and her husband formed Publishing Professionals, providing editorial, design and typesetting services. Their first customer was the publisher for whom she had been production manager. Today Publishing Professionals still does outsourcing for this publisher, in addition to producing academic quarterly journals, text books, and miscellaneous general type books for many publishers. Because of the demand for quality produced books and the increasing popularity of independently published books Publishing Professionals began working with individual clients in 1993.
As she became known for her expert advice, Sylvia began providing individual consultation serices and publishing workshops in 1996. These workshops have been presented at area books stores, The St. Petersburg Times Festival of Reading, Florida Publishers’ Association, public libraries, universities. Her clients have come to rely on her expertise and call her frequently for advice in producing, publicizing, and marketing their books. Sylvia also provides full book marketing and publicity services for a limited number of clients Sylvia is a Regional Director for Florida Writers Association, a member of Florida Publishers’ Association (FPA), where she is the Newspaper Editor, National Association of Independent Publishers (NAIP), Publishers, Marketing Association (PMA), Small Publishers Association of North America (SPAN), West Pasco Chamber of Commerce, and the Better Business Bureau.
