Unmanned Aircraft Design: Features of Design Process

This book provides a comprehensive overview of UAVs, encompassing both fixed-wing and copter-type configurations. It offers a detailed analysis of the potential applications of UAVs, complemented by a comparative study of their distinct characteristics. Additionally, this book delves into the intricate design process of drones and elucidates the impact of configuration on their functionality. This book presents analytical dependencies that can be readily applied in practice to UAV design. Numerous examples are provided, accompanied by numerical solutions and graphical explanations, which facilitate comprehension. The current state of Airworthiness regulations for UAVs is still in the preliminary stage of development. In this book, an analysis was conducted for drone safety and existing Airworthiness rules in various countries. This book is a good reference for industrial drone designers, and drone researchers from research institutions and universities.

Dr. Longbiao Li is a lecturer in the College of Civil Aviation at the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dr. Li’s research focuses on the vibration, fatigue, damage, fracture, reliability, safety and durability of aircraft and aero engine. In this research area, he is the first author of 220 SCI Journal Publications (58 JCR Q1), 12 Monograph, 4 Edited Books, 4 Textbooks, 3 Book Chapters, 34 Chinese Patents, 2 Chinese Software Copyright, and more than 30 refereed conference proceedings. He has been involved in different projects related to structural damage, reliability, and airworthiness design for aircraft and aero engines, supported by the Natural Science Foundation of China, COMAC Company, and AECC Commercial Aircraft Engine Company.

Prof. Dmytro Tiniakov is currently affiliated with the College of Aerospace Engineering at the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Previously, he held the position of a professor at the National Aerospace University of Ukraine (Kharkov Aviation Institute). He has extensive research experience in the domain of civil aircraft and the design of UAVs for research purposes. He has published extensively, with more than 50 scientific papers and over 10 books in various fields.
