About this Item
George Edwards was an English naturalist and ornithologist. He studied natural history, and gained a reputation for his coloured drawings of animals, especially birds. He is the author of the Natural History of Birds and Gleanings of Natural History, from which this print comes from. Such was the impact of Natural History and Gleanings that Edwards is considered to have almost single-handedly popularized the art of bird and animal illustration, and is thus known as "The Father of British Ornithology." Size: 355 x 256 mm. Copper engraving. Original hand colour. Water stains around the edge of the paper. Seller Inventory # 64826
