This new edition is unique in that while the original text is intact, Gans has added extensive postscripts to the final five chapters and the appendix. Additionally, he updates the study’s findings on American society, adding new material on poverty and inequality.

About the Author

Hebert J. Gans is Professor of Sociology at Columbia University. His other books are The Levittowners, People and Plans, More Equality, Popular Culture and High Culture, and Deciding What’s News: A Study of CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, Newsweek, and Time.
