Using Evidence to End Homelessness

Available open access under CC-BY-NC license. Homelessness is unequivocally devastating. In the UK, people affected by homelessness are ten times more likely to die than their peers in the general population, yet we still miss important opportunities to adequately address the issue.

The Centre for Homelessness Impact brings together this urgent book gathering the insights and experiences of leaders in government, academia and the third sector to present new evidence-based strategies to end homelessness.

Demonstrating why and how a new movement is needed that embraces data and evidence as integral to ending homelessness effectively, this book provides crucial methods to underpin future policy, practice and funding decisions.

Jonathan Breckon is a researcher and advocate for evidence, and a visiting senior research fellow at King’s College London. He was previously the Director of the Alliance for Useful Evidence at Nesta, and a trustee of What Works for Children’s Social Care.

Danny Dorling is Halford Mackinder Professor of Geography at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of St Peter’s College. He is a patron of RoadPeace, Comprehensive Future and Heeley City Farm. He has published over 50 books, including the best-selling Peak Inequality: Britain’s Ticking Timebomb (2018) and Injustice: Why Social Inequality Still Persists (2014)..

Lígia Teixeira is Founder and CEO of the Centre for Homelessness Impact. The Centre, a member of the UK’s What Works Network, has galvanised a movement to apply reliable evidence and data in homelessness ― showing that trying to do good is not enough, and driving a shift towards action that delivers real impact.
