- sc The 9 inch high by 7-1/4 inch wide sienna-toned black & white photograph depicts the celebrated Wagnerian heldentenor Lauritz Melchior, cigar in hand, with his arm around his wife. Distributed by International News Photos with their pictorial stamp on the verso. The photograph is slightly soiled and there is a slight crease to the bottom right corner.A press release serving as caption for the photograph is mechanically reproduced in type on a sheet of paper mounted from the verso. He gave over 500 performances of Wagnerian roles at the Metropolitan Opera from 1926-1950. He further sang in 5 Hollywood films for MGM and Paramount and his hand and foot prints were immortalized in cement in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.…
