180pp., including frontispiece and five plates. Engraved titlepage vignette. 12mo. Contemporary half calf and marbled boards, spine gilt. Rubbed along spine, edgeworn. Very good. An early 19th-century printing of one of the most popular nautical narratives of the 18th century. The mission of Anson's voyage was to harass Spanish shipping along the west coast of South America during 1740-43, concluding with the capture of a Manila galleon carrying £400,000 in treasure. This Dublin edition contains interesting engraved plates, including a penguin, and the "manner of catching the wild bull." Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Small 142 x 85mm, woodcut frontispiece, 180 p. Six full-page woodcuts including the frontispiece. Contemporary black half calf, gilt lettered and decorated on the backstrip, marbled boards, title vignette and tailpiece. Light unobtrusive cracking to the joints, the hinges are sound, 1877 ink inscription on the front free endpaper otherwise a very good copy. Light book.
