Synopsis
Through the study of Values of the Romanian Employees, we have proposed ourselves to explore the needs, interests, preferences and goals of the Romanians, their rules and their evaluation criteria, their common ideals and, last but not least, the sense that most Romanian attribute to their lives. The central concept of the book looks at the strengths and weaknesses of Romanian employees – thus, we analyzed 40 values concerning work, relations, evolution, personal achievement and morality. Based on these values, we suggested certain strategies and techniques for motivating the Romanians. One of our main goals was to help the management of companies in Romania to understand the values and motivations of Romanian employees and, especially, to discover how they can be encouraged and valued. At the end of the day, any organizational culture is heavily influenced by the broader contextual culture, and employee performance is related not only to the level of their skills, but also to the extent of their integration into the company culture. Looking back at the past 100 years, we find that the Romanians are not a predictable people, but – on the contrary – perhaps they’re one of the most unpredictable peoples of Europe. “Let’s look to the future!” Dorin Bodea urges us, in whose book I can recognize many of the values and behavioral characteristics of the people that I have interacted with in various communities or simply on the street. I am intrigued by the evolution of the “Romanian self” and the research provides abundant scientific arguments, statistics, references to the geographical and historical context, a lucid and objective interpretation of what characterizes us. But more importantly, it offers us a valuable tool in the attempt to build our future... one which is a little better and perhaps more predictable. – Catalin Velescu, Managing Director, 3M Romania
