Binding tight. Small oval green Editorial Aramburu, Pamplona bookseller's sticker on front pastedown; pages toned but otherwise unmarked. A handsome Spanish edition of Rodney Gallop's classic study of the Basques, drawing on extensive fieldwork in both the French and Spanish Basque country and treating the language, literature, music, dance, architecture, decoration, sport, folklore, and superstitions of the region. Rodney Gallop (1901-1948), an English diplomat and ethnographer, was one of the most respected non-Basque authorities on Basque culture; his original work appeared in English in 1930 as "A Book of the Basques" and remains a standard reference. The volume is enriched throughout by line drawings from his wife Marjorie Gallop, including a substantial section of musical transcriptions of traditional Basque songs. Contents: Introducción; I.
