Verb-Particle Constructions in American English: A Study Based on American Plays from the End of the 18th Century to the Present (Swiss Studies in English, Vol. 89)

Scarce paperback, iv + 160pp, NOT ex-library. A small indentation / gentle crease to lower outer page corners, else internally very good: clean, untanned, with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps. Very good firm binding. A touch of minor spotting on page edges externally. Cover shows extensive sunning (spine, upper front, rear panel along the edges), short creases to corners, one gentle scuff-mark on spine; spine's slightly leaned, showing faint marks, free of vertical creases. --- "The present book is a study of so-called verb-particle constructions (or 'phrasal verbs') in sixty-eight American plays from roughly the middle of the 18th century to the present. For the sake of the study this span of time is divided into six 10-year periods at 30-year intervals, starting with the period 1765-75 and leading up to 1965-72.".
