Considered a graphic chronicle of the travels of the King on his travels to the capital cities of England and France, each image is presented with a description of the area and the activities displayed, with commentary on the experience. Known as El Africano for his Africanist views, Alfonso XIII was the King of Spain from his birth until 1931 when the Second Spanish Republic was proclaimed. Often presented as a soldier-king, he was linked closely to the military estate. Though an attempt at regicide was made during his wedding to Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg in 1906, they escaped unharmed. Rebacked with pictorial cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light fraying to the extremities. A 1" split in the cloth to the rear joint and a small puncture to the front board. Marks to the boards. Front hinge tender. Internally, generally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd handling mark. Age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown. Good. Seller Inventory # 879T57
