In 1975, when Bubar was charged with blowing up a factory his attorney, the late Rudolph Zalowitz, nick-named "the Lion of Judah," made an unexpected flight to the Vatican on a Saturday, asking for an immediate audience with the Pope. When his mission was made known, he was instantly assigned to high-ranking Vatican worldwide official. After a nearly three-hour conference, it was decided that David would invoke the Fifth Amendment and would keep his word to "never reveal the secrets entrusted to him by others." Being a very principled man, he did this. Before a lengthy six-month Federal trial, where he sat mute, refusing to testify for or against anyone, including himself. He chose prison over giving up secrets. He gave his word. He kept it. He went to prison because of it.
Once inside the US prison system, Bubar found a new world of violence, politics, and corruption. Because of the "leaking pipelines," feuding, and assassinations among the intelligence community at the time, some of the high-level people who had entrusted their secrets to David now wanted him dead, to ensure he never would reveal their confidences. However, others in this very same select group did all they could to help keep David alive.
In "A Victor, not a Victim, David reveals his experience in this new world of treachery survival, and how God sent His guardian angels to protect him, while others around him tried to assassinate him from within the system itself.
David, a musician, was ordained into the ministry as a Southern Baptist, by the famous R.G. Lee of the Belview Baptist Church, Memphis, TN. David took the word of Jesus literally that says, "Come unto me all ye that are weak and heavy laden…" and practiced the same during his lifetime through the First Century Church. He gave away more than he received all his life. He kept himself poor because he gave everything away to those in need-many people he didn’t even know.
David is a servant whether it was to people in need or his government. At one point he was imprisoned for seven and a half years only later to receive an executive order (pardon) releasing him. He called this experience his graduate studies and chronicled this experience in his book, A Victor, Not a Victim
