Australian Marsh selects both the best and little-known period decorative objects--45 in all--for experienced crafters to fashion. Set against a series of romanticized photographs, the projects bespeak the sentimental clutter of a nineteenth-century home: an elaborately embroidered and bedecked teddy bear, a hand-painted lap desk, a crocheted milk jug cover, and a smocked Christmas ornament. The showpiece is explained first: a miniature Victorian dollhouse, complete with directions for wallpapering and furnishing. All plans include graphs, charts, and templates (occasionally full-size) and demand an expert familiarity with a range of crafts (woodworking, painting, sewing, and decorative stitchery).
