Synopsis
Janie has a temper, and it often gets her into trouble. For instance, there was the time she threw a book the most popular guy in the school, Radford Reese, when he and his friends taunted her - even though he happens to be her crush. It also got her into trouble with her sister, Mary, and Mary's fickle fiancée, Paul, who Janie desperately wants to get rid of. After Janie tames her temper, she regrets what she has done. Can she find a way to make amends without making a fool of herself? Janie likes to retreat to her own special room in the attic, to record her thoughts and feelings and make plans as she gazes out over her town through the window. As the view from the attic window changes through the days and seasons, Janie's life changes with it. A devastating tragedy and the loss of a loved one will bring Janie face to face with a choice she doesn't know if she can make. What is more important: her family, or her dreams for the future? She will also discover that Rad isn't quite as proud as she'd once thought him to be - perhaps it wasn't such a bad idea to have a crush on him all those years ago, after all. And maybe, just maybe, he never really thought of her as "Jane, Jane, skinny and plain," either. In her ninth book, A View from the Attic Window, popular author Alene Roberts will take the reader to the charming mountain town of Silver Springs, Colorado, to a world and a story they will never forget.
About the Author
Alene Roberts was born and raised in the small town of Monticello, Utah. One of her happiest memories as a young child, before she could read, was the daily ritual of sitting on the floor in front of the bookcase looking through the books, even loving the smell of them. When she learned to read, it was like eating candy. When ten years old, she contracted polio and had to spend a year in the hospital. It was during those long months, three hundred miles from home, that she discovered the joy of communicating her thoughts through her letters. She wrote every day to her family, to her friends, her relatives and anyone else she could think of even her beloved dentist. Born a hopeless romantic, she wrote a truncated love story at the age of twelve. She always had a secret yearning to write, but never thought she could until a professor at college who taught an advanced creative writing class told her she should seriously consider writing. Though thrilled at the professor's confidence in her writing ability, she decided to table her desire to write seriously until her children were raised. She did, however, write a lengthy children's book while waiting in the car for her children at seminary. She also wrote an extended life history for each of her five children. Now, with her seventh book published, she says, "You're never too old to accomplish your dreams!" Alene graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelors degree in Drama, a minor in English, and a teaching certificate. She has made a study of behavioral genetics, neurological reading problems, and nutrition. Spending time with her husband, Elliott, family, friends, reading, enjoying nature and going to musicals are a few of her passions. She and her husband have five children and a slew of grandchildren. They have lived in Arizona and Texas, and now reside in Utah.
