About this Item
ca. 1750-1800 277 x 445 mm Etching/watercolour Pasted onto cardboard. Minor staining. Good state. A beautiful detailed view on the market square in front of the 'Nieuwe Kerk' in the Dutch city of Delft. On the right side a part of the town hall (by Henrick de Keyser) is visible. The picturesque shops and busy square lead to the church in the center of the picture. Hand coloured. Illuminated by small holes and figures which are punched through the paper. At the back of the print we see that the holes are covered with see-through paper. Some of the holes are coated with green, yellow, red and blue paint. This gives the illusion of coloured lights behind the windows and stars when the print is held in front of a light source. Written on the back: "Jan Prince Zenovatum, Dec. 1884".
