A View Of The Primitive Ages, Tr. By G. Roberts. Repr by Theophilus Evans — Evans's Welsh history of the ancient Britons is presented here in an English translation by the 19th-century editor. The work traces the origin of the Welsh people, their first arrival in Britain, and their conflicts with Rome, the Picts, and the Saxons. It covers legendary figures such as Brutus and Arthur, outlines early Welsh laws, the Druids, and the idolatrous practices preceding Christianity, and recounts the spread of Christianity in Britain, including Lucius, the missions of Garmon and Lupus, the Pelagian controversy, Augustine’s later work among the English, and the Celtic church’s struggle against papal pretensions. The translator also provides prefatory notes on sources and Evans’s life. The volume is intended for readers of Welsh history and early church history, offering a polemical but accessible account of Britain’s primitive ages.
