A View of the Rise and Fall of the Kingdoms of Judah and Israel

A View Of The Rise And Fall Of The Kingdoms Of Judah And Israel by William Stevens. This devotional-educational history blends biblical narration with exhortatory commentary to teach young readers about God's providence, covenant faithfulness, and moral lessons drawn from Israel's rise and fall. Spanning the patriarchal period through the early monarchy, it centers on Abraham's descendants and later leaders such as Samuel, Saul, Jonathan, David, Absalom, Ahithophel, Hushai, Nathan, Zadok, Abiathar, Michal, Bathsheba, Uriah, Mephibosheth, Ziba, and others. It traces the divine choosing of Israel, the burdens and dangers of kingship, Saul's insecurity and David's rise, Jonathan's loyalty, and the storms of rebellion and repentance that shape the dynasty. The work also surveys the broader geopolitical theater—Philistines, Moab, Edom, and neighboring kingdoms—before turning to later epochs of dispersion, Samaritan history, and the restoration era, including the birth of Christ and the early Christian church, framed to illustrate prophecy and providence guiding nations and people.
