The Viking Bodleys: An Excursion Into Norway and Denmark by Horace E. Scudder, with Illustrations, Houghton, Mifflin and Company, Boston, 1885, frontispiece with many illustrations, decorative boards, 9 x 7, 4to. In good condition. Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing to corners and edges. Slight loss of paper board at head and tail of spine. Covers toned and lightly soiled. Floral end papers slightly toned. Christmas gift inscription dated 1885 on second fly leaf. Finger smudging to second fly and sporadically throughout text. Tissue guard on frontis toned with offsetting to title. Light toning throughout text with minor instances of foxing and age stain. Free of marginalia. Binding tight and intact. A very beautiful book! Please see photos. Early decorated paper board books are quite collectible and scarce in this condition! This is a charming book of Nordic culture and includes a portrait of Hans Christian Andersen, Viking ships, costume and more.
