Marc Edo Tralbaut was born in 1902 at Auvers-sur-Oise, near Paris. He was formerly chief curator at the Royal Museum of Art in Antwerp and curator of the State Institute for the history of art in The Hague where he also founded the International Van Gogh Archives. He has published more than one hundred essays and monographs devoted to Van Gogh and contributed to the preparation of the Van Gogh exhibitions held in Antwerp in 1955, Breda in 1956-57, Amsterdam in 1958, and Paris in 1960, among others.

Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853 ? 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over a decade he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. They include landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits, and are characterised by bold colours and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundations of modern art. His suicide at 37 followed years of mental illness and poverty.
This large format book, 350 pages, is fine condition. The dust jacket is in near-fine condition and is now in a protective mylar wrap. The previous owner?s neat signature is on the front flyleaf. This large and heavy book may require additional postage. A very high-end production typical of this publisher. A very scarce and important title on Van Gogh.
